RUSTIC
Rustic

Surfaces without seams.

Rustic applies microcement, decorative finishes and self-levelling floors in homes and commercial spaces across Iceland. By hand, layer by layer.

Services

We work with surfaces that stand up to daily life and look better with age.

  • Microcement

    Cemher

Spanish Cemher microcement, applied 2–3 mm thick directly onto floors, walls, showers, worktops and stairs. No joints, no grout.

  • Decorative walls

    Novacolor

Italian Novacolor finishes: lime, polished stone, metallic and concrete-look textures for walls that carry the room.

  • Painting

Careful interior painting of walls, ceilings and joinery, done by the same team that applies the finishes.

  • Self-levelling floors

Smooth, continuous floors for garages, shops, workshops and homes. Preparation, levelling and sealing.

Where microcement belongs

Same material, same hands. From the living room floor to the shower wall and out onto the terrace.

  • Floors

One continuous floor with no tile gaps, even over old tiles.

Why microcement?

  • Goes over what is already there

Tiles, concrete, plasterboard and wood. Usually with no demolition, which saves time, dust and money.

  • Only 2–3 mm thick

No changes to doors, thresholds or pipe heights.

  • Waterproof and hard-wearing

Sealed with a polyurethane lacquer that handles showers, kitchens and heavy traffic.

  • No seams

No grout lines to clean and nowhere for mould to settle.

Seven layers. Three millimetres.

Microcement is not a paint but a system. Each layer goes on once the one beneath has dried and been sanded, and together they form a 2–3 mm surface without seams. Click the layers to see what each one does.

The layers, top down

We work with two materials from the same Cemher system: Microne, a ready-mixed paste that is waterproof throughout and suits wet rooms and worktops, and Microdur, a powder mixed with water that suits large floors. The layer build-up is the same.

How a job runs

Five steps from the first call to a finished surface. Most jobs take one to two weeks, with drying time between coats.

Step 1 of 5

Site visit and quote

We come out, measure and check the substrate. You get a written quote.

Send us photos and the square metres for a rough price, or we come and measure. The quote is free and without obligation.

Step 2 of 5

Colours and samples

We choose the colour and finish together from samples in the showroom.

Cemher offers dozens of colours and custom mixes. Samples can be borrowed to see the colour in your own light.

Step 3 of 5

Preparation

The substrate is cleaned, sealed and primed. Mesh reinforcement where needed.

Usually nothing is torn out: microcement goes over tiles, concrete and plasterboard. Underfloor heating is no problem.

Step 4 of 5

Application

The microcement goes on in two to three coats, sanded between each.

Each coat is only 1–1.5 mm. The hand of the applicator sets the texture, so no two surfaces are exactly alike.

Step 5 of 5

Sealing and handover

Two to three coats of lacquer. The surface is ready for use after a few days.

The polyurethane lacquer makes the surface waterproof and hard-wearing. Light use the next day, full use after about a week.
