Living room

The old floor stayed. The microcement was laid straight over it, and the living room got one continuous floor from the stove to the window with the sea view.

In short

Surfaces
Living-room floor
Substrate
Laid straight over the old floor
System
Microcement, three coats of lacquer

This is a typical job for anyone who wants a new floor without demolition. The old floor was sanded, primed and meshed, and the microcement laid 2–3 mm on top. Doors, thresholds and joinery stayed as they were.

In the evening light you see what the texture does: the trowel marks and colour variation come out as the sun drops, and the floor looks different at seven than at noon.

The stove and heavy furniture went back after a month, once the material had fully cured, with felt pads under the feet as on parquet.
